In academia, we sometimes think about our mentors and students as part of an intellectual family. A great example of this is Neurotree. Scientists take pride in tracing a lineage of ideas and perspectives back to a Nobel prize winner or an intellectual revolutionary. As a graduate student, I made espresso to keep me going on late nights with an espresso machine that was passed down from a Nobel Laureate to one of my mentors. At ALICEhelps our interns are working with a co-author of the first draft of internet calendaring protocols. More than the history though, scientists take pleasure in the successes of their students as they spread their wings and accomplish things that weren’t possible before they mixed the things they learned with their own imagination and talents in an ever changing world.
With this in mind on this father’s day week, it’s my pleasure to introduce the Summer 2021 ALICEhelps interns. They are wonderful, talented people. It’s a pleasure to work with them and I hope that we at ALICEhelps are able to give them a bit of insight or inspiration that serves them in their careers in return for the work and dedication they are giving to us.
